Ana Vallejo (CO/US, b. 1987) is an interdisciplinary mixed media artist and conceptual documentary photographer from Colombia. Now based in New York, Vallejo has a background in biology: she is fascinated with the brain, human consciousness, and its ability to expand and transform.
Her experimental research-based projects invite chance and collaboration, delving into human perception, memory, and emotions. She is interested in marginal spaces – that which resides outside the status quo, excluded by society or defined by rigid stigma.
Vallejo’s Neuromantic series explores dependencies of love, addiction and trauma, as well as investigating the inheritance of particular psychological patterns across generations. In trying to understand her own codependencies, the artist dismantles her prior ideas about romantic love, opening the door to new notions of queer intimacy and a heightened sense of self-awareness.
