Daniel Wagener (Valerius Gallery)

Daniel Wagener (LU/BE, b. 1988) is a Luxembourgish photographer, living and working between Brussels and Luxembourg. His projects observe ordinary materials from the urban environment; focusing on objects and urban landscapes that are both familiar and transgressive to him, he documents traces left accidentally by people, as well as the absurd normality of the staging of everyday life. In 2023, Wagener’s work was exhibited in a solo presentation at the Rencontres d’Arles, France.

In saturated primary colours, Wagener’s photographs depict ordinary scenes that propose new approaches to reality. At first glance, these photographs follow an aesthetic, functional and pragmatic visual language, with an undeniable touch of humour. Upon closer inspection, they reveal reflections on society and the environment we create around us. At Foto Tallinn, Wagener presents his most recent work, shot in Mexico in 2023.
