Heikki Leis (EE, b. 1973) is both a photographer and a sculptor, though he is best-known for his hyperrealistic pen and pencil drawings. Most of his projects are shot on film, as is the case with The Life Before Us. Over the past 20 years, Leis has worked extensively to capture the circle of life – in photographs and in drawings.
At Foto Tallinn, Leis presents four photographs from The Life Before Us series, depicting ailing Estonian landscapes, populated by the next generation of children. Of the works presented at the fair, only #2 and #3 are staged – none of the images are Photoshopped.
